Alejandro (Alex) Gazca ia Mexican American with dual citizenship. Raising his family in Minnesota, the landscape and beauty here was a source of inspiration. Always up for a challenge, when the opportunity to host a radio program came, Alex curated the music, sought sponsors, and recorded the commercials. “Variedades Musicales” aired on KXBR 690 AM.

A self-taught artist, Alex was drawn to painting to put his feelings on canvas when he was out of work because of a dislocated shoulder. He found encouragement with a multi-cultural collective of artists, ArTrujillo. Primarily working in acrylics, pigments, ink and markers on canvas, Alex has been a very prolific artist. He is drawn to paint landscapes, the sea and wildlife, but also expands on supernatural and “curandismo” elements. His colors are bold and vibrant leaning in on his Mexican heritage and its rich hues. Embracing the fact that he has had no formal art education, Alex pushes the boundaries of convention to create his visions and interpretation of the world as he sees it and not through the eyes of others.

His work, with two other artists, was recently showcased in a pop-up exhibition “Art Has No Rules” with Serpentina Arts. Luis Fitch, the curator and instigator of that show explained, “Art is not about following someone else’s vision. It’s about creating your own”. That has been and will continue to be the theme of Alex’s art.
