Medium

Having been introduced to visual arts early in childhood, Irving Rodríguez began his visual endeavors creating sketches for his family and later broadened his scope by making drawings of his childhood interests such as wildlife and superheroes. Growing up in the Minneapolis metro area, Irving developed an interest in expressing his personal interests and experiences through his art, both visually and through music. Through his adolescence, Irving had pieces shown in exhibitions throughout Minnesota, such as the State Capitol building and St. Olaf College.

Although not formally educated in an art background, Irving did earn a scholarship in 2011 for a course at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and later graduated from Augsburg College with a B.A. in Sociology. Up until recently, music was Irving’s main artistic expression but is now re-emerging into visual arts. He typically works with charcoal and ink on paper although painting on canvas has been a focus lately.  Currently he resides in Minneapolis and uses both his past and current experiences as a source for his artistic outlets. Irving’s art ranges on topics from pop culture, social issues, music, to more personal and conceptual pieces that tell a story. It is through art that Irving wishes to continue expressing inner dialogue and sharing human experiences.
