Illustration, Painting, Multidisciplinary

Medium

Nico Mist is a multidisciplinary Latino artist now based in Minnesota. His work explores questions of identity, meaning and the human experience, spanning a range of mediums including illustration, muralism, paintings and tattooing.

Influenced by literature and symbolism, Nicolás uses his art to provoke thought about the architecture of contemporary society, addressing themes such as violence, power and rebirth. His background in architecture left a lasting impact, shaping his worldview and self-identification as an “anthropologist in action”. Through his tattooing practice, he has found a meditative space to reflect on the persistent contrast within nature, transforming darkness into light.

His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including 50 Casas de Arquitectura (2016) at the University of Buenos Aires, Solidarity Street Gallery at Art @ 967 Payne (2020), Summer-Vortex at United Art Supply (2024), and Flavorworld Gallery at Indeed Blue Ox Room (2024). His mural work can be seen throughout the Twin Cities, including projects for Caydence Records & Coffee (2022) The Urban Village (2023), Embrace North (2024), Growing Healthy Communities at Urban Roots (2024), and the Traditional Connections event at Indigenous Roots (2024).

He has collaborated in several mural projects, including works with The Afghan Cultural Society (2023), Copla Community Murals on Wheelock Parkway (2023), and Lynda Grafito for Chroma Zone (2023). He also participated in the Ripple Effect event (2024), where he painted live during the launch of the Minnesota Twins' new uniform.
